Budget car rental coupon: check the booking route before the discount
For the Southwest-linked Budget offer, start from its offer page, retain both the BCD and coupon fields, and compare the final payable total against an identical booking without that offer. A headline discount is not a discount on every charge.

What the official partner page says
Southwest's Budget page requires its booking link and a Rapid Rewards number. It lists BCD U07279 and coupon MUAY173, with rentals beginning by January 31, 2027. The advertised saving is up to 30% of the qualifying base rate. It excludes taxes and additional charges and disallows other promotions. Participating airport locations in the US and Canada are specified. Check the live terms before reserving; this is a source review, not a verified booking.

Our decision worksheet
This worksheet is our original comparison method. It does not predict a price or promise eligibility. Begin with a clean record of the trip: pickup office, return office, pickup time, return time, car group, driver age, residence and payment timing. Save that record before exploring any discount. Otherwise a cheaper number may simply reflect a different itinerary or a different car.
Make two columns named Control and Offer. Control is the exact trip without the partner promotion. Offer is the trip reached from the offer page. In both columns copy the time and mileage charge, mandatory charges, selected optional products, total payable amount and cancellation conditions. Use the displayed figures rather than a percentage in the page headline. If a charge is absent or unclear, mark it unknown instead of treating it as zero.
Now calculate cash saving as Control total minus Offer total. All inputs come from your two booking summaries; no sample fares are needed. A positive result means the second displayed total is smaller at that moment. A negative result means the coupon route is more expensive for that comparison. Do not conclude that a code always wins or always fails from one search. Your dates and rental office are part of the evidence.
Keep reward points in a separate column. Do not subtract a guessed cash value for them from the total. A points headline and a cash discount answer different questions. If you have a personal redemption value supported by a booking you actually intend to make, record that calculation separately and label it your own assumption. The cash comparison should still be readable without it.
Before choosing, put flexibility beside the price. Record whether the reservation is prepaid, when cancellation becomes chargeable, and which changes can reprice the trip. These entries are not a mathematical prediction of what will happen. They expose a tradeoff you can evaluate. If your travel plans are uncertain, an apparently smaller prepaid total might not be the option you want.
Finally save the date, source address and reservation summary you used. Recheck them before payment. A published code can remain on a page while the offer's dates, participating offices or qualifying rate conditions have changed. Our worksheet is designed to make that mismatch visible; it is not a substitute for the provider's reservation terms.
Which field receives which code?
Budget's official coupon page exposes separate BCD and coupon inputs. Treat them as separate identifiers. Do not move a number between fields merely because a third-party page calls everything a promo code.
Questions to answer before payment
Does an accepted code prove I qualify?
No. Our checklist treats code acceptance and eligibility as separate checks. Read the offer's driver, location, date and rate restrictions, then compare them with your trip. Do not use a restricted membership benefit without the required membership.
What if the total does not fall?
Record both summaries and verify that the two bookings match. Then examine the offer's conditions and route. Do not invent a reason or repeatedly submit a reservation to test a code. If the terms are unclear, ask the provider about that specific offer before payment.
